Canada secured its first-ever Billie Jean King Cup title after defeating Italy 2-0. Leylah Fernandez and Marina Stakusic each won their respective singles matches to clinch the victory. Stakusic, ranked 258th in the world, claimed the first point for Canada by defeating No. 43 Martina Trevisan 7-5, 6-3, marking the biggest win of her career. Fernandez, ranked 20th and the runner-up in the 2021 U.S. Open, sealed the deal for Canada with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Jasmine Paolini at La Cartuja Stadium. Fernandez remained undefeated in Seville with four wins, while 18-year-old Stakusic, who had never defeated a top 100 opponent before the tournament, earned three wins while representing her country in Spain.
