Law enforcement officials are currently conducting a thorough investigation of a series of funeral homes located in Hull and its neighboring regions following a report of potential negligence in handling the deceased.

A hotline has been established for individuals concerned about how their loved ones are being cared for by Legacy Independent Funeral Directors.

Officials placed cordons outside of Legacy’s three locations in Hull and Beverley on Friday due to concerns reported by Humberside police on Wednesday evening about the handling of the deceased at those branches.

A high-ranking official advised the public not to engage in speculation in order to safeguard possibly “grieving and traumatized families,” while investigators attempted to determine if any crimes had taken place at the location.

The Humberside police stated that they have conducted multiple investigations to determine the specific information, issue, and conditions. There are currently police boundaries and officials present at three funeral homes in Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire, as a report was received regarding worries about the treatment of the deceased at these locations.

There are multiple actions that could result in a person breaking the law when handling a dead body. These include obstructing a legal burial, committing acts that offend public moral standards, obstructing justice, and taking human tissue without permission.

Simon Gawthorpe, DCS, stated that although our investigation is still in its initial phases, I comprehend that this news may be distressing for numerous families and individuals who have used the services of this company due to the loss of their loved ones.

“We have already communicated with several individuals as part of our inquiry and are collaborating closely with His Majesty’s coroner, Hull city council, and East Riding council in order to ascertain the truth.”

I urge anyone to reach out to us, as we are fully aware of the potential upset this may bring. A dedicated phone line has been set up for those concerned or wishing to discuss Legacy Independent Funeral Directors with us.

“As we continue our investigation to determine the exact details of what may have happened and whether any criminal actions were involved, we kindly request that people refrain from speculation. This investigation is centered around families and individuals who may be experiencing heartache and devastation, and it is important that we offer them the utmost consideration and support that they deserve.”
