Adele will be setting up a unique and custom-made temporary stadium for a set of upcoming concerts, marking her return to mainland Europe after 2016.

The acclaimed singer, who has won multiple Grammys and topped the charts, has announced four upcoming concerts in Munich for August. On Instagram, she shared that she had not planned on adding any new live shows, as she already has a 2022 concert scheduled in London’s Hyde Park and an ongoing residency in Las Vegas that concludes in June. She also mentioned…

I couldn’t resist the temptation to explore this idea – a unique, custom-made temporary stadium tailored to showcase my desired performance? How exciting! And to have it located right in the heart of Europe, specifically Munich? That’s quite unexpected, but still fantastic! And with the timing right after the Euros and alongside the Olympics? Let’s go England and Simone [Biles]! Plus, some of my favorite artists will also be performing? Absolutely, YES! It’s been five years since my last show in Europe, and I can’t think of a more perfect way to spend my summer and wrap up this wonderful chapter of my life and career with performances closer to home.

Renderings of the stadium show a clamshell-shaped design picked out with bright bordering, plus a semi-circular walkway to a B-stage. It helps replicate – at a grander scale – the type of theatre stage setup that Adele has been using in Las Vegas. She has been performing her Weekends With Adele concert residency since November 2022 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Adele is actively involved in the creation of her concert’s production design. Initially scheduled to start in January, her Vegas residency was delayed due to concerns with the set design. She explained that it felt disconnected from her and her band, lacking intimacy.

Abba has also conducted experiments with temporary venues, such as their immersive Abba Voyage concerts featuring avatar performers, held in a custom-built arena in east London. The structure, made of steel and timber, can be taken apart and reconstructed. However, there is currently no information on where it will be relocated after its successful run in London.

A temporary stadium was constructed for the 2022 Qatar World Cup – known as Stadium 974, it utilized 974 shipping containers in its design and has since been taken apart. A new pop-up stadium with a capacity of 34,000 is in the works in New York, located 25 miles east of Manhattan, to accommodate matches for the T20 World Cup in cricket. This move by the International Cricket Council aims to increase the sport’s following in the United States.

Fans are required to sign up for tickets to Adele’s Munich shows before 5 February, prior to the tickets being available for purchase on 7 and 9 February.
