David Tennant: ‘Kissing Michael Sheen was fine. He’d brushed his teeth’

How do you face the challenge of being this year’s Bafta host? practicalpanic

Currently, I do not feel challenged because all the information is readily available and I do not have to worry about competing for an award. If it were the opening night of a play, I would likely be feeling anxious and overwhelmed. However, the fact that this is not my primary job is freeing. I am unsure why I was chosen for this opportunity, as I was probably not at the top of the list. My expectations are low and I do not feel the need to prove myself. Will I seek advice from previous Bafa hosts Jonathan Ross and Stephen Fry? It is possible. But for now, I am content to travel without any prior knowledge or expectations.

Can you share your views on sideburns? It seems that they are sized based on the confidence level of your characters. – DrHugbine

This is a thought-provoking observation that I don’t believe has any validity, but it is causing me to question…

Some examples include Peter Vincent from Fright Night, who has a long and bushy beard and is a confident vampire hunter. The Doctor in Doctor Who has a long and pointy beard, and is known for being charismatic and charming. DI Alec Hardy from Broadchurch has a beard but no sideburns, and is introverted and suspicious. Barty Crouch Jr from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire also has no beard or sideburns, and is portrayed as complex and a traitor. In Good Omens, Anthony Crowley has ginger hair and no sideburns, and is described as stylish but also tempted Eve in the garden of Eden disguised as a snake, making him a somewhat questionable character.

I doubt that you will use that evidence to write a doctoral thesis. The evidence is not very substantial. I grew sideburns for my role in Doctor Who because I was concerned about looking too young and I believed they added some maturity to my appearance. Ironically, I had to recreate them recently when I am most likely too old for the role. As I have aged, I tend to have facial hair, so sideburns are not a concern. The length of my sideburns on the night of the Baftas does not reflect how seriously I am taking the event.

As a clergyman with young children, I am curious about how being raised as a son of a clergyman has impacted your career. RevdAlastair

It can be difficult to discern, as you are only aware of the influences from your parents, being that they are your parents – it’s challenging to separate them. My upbringing was not centered around religious beliefs or limitations, but rather a moral compass.

What was your experience like kissing Michael Sheen in the second season of “Good Omens”? Who seemed to enjoy it more? – carnies18

Who had the most enjoyment? It can be assumed that Michael was ecstatic. How could he not be? However, it was just another day on the job. The most challenging aspect was dealing with other people’s discomfort. We found it rather enjoyable, so it was not a problem. He had taken care of his dental hygiene.

Are you willing to receive a knighthood in order to have a great argument with Sheen in the upcoming season of Staged? – Shirls

As a result of him returning his OBE, it can be assumed that the events depicted in Staged are based on real-life situations. The actors are filmed in their own homes, interacting with people they are close to. However, this is the only aspect of Staged that reflects reality.

Which is the most enjoyable role – detective, murderer, or murder victim? JonnyMorris1973

One of them solves the crimes, while another one commits them. The third character is a victim of a crime. This may vary depending on the writer’s preference and which character is most enjoyable to portray. The actor’s performance is not the determining factor, but rather the scriptwriter’s creativity. I believe I have only played one detective role before. As for my favorite way of being killed, I have been shot in The Last September. In Macbeth, I am killed every night on stage, but that could be considered a spoiler. I also technically died in Doctor Who when I was shot by a galvanic beam in a radiation chamber, which overloaded my body with radiation.

Do I have a similar level of geekiness to Doctor Who fans? Definitely. Being a longtime Doctor Who enthusiast myself, I can relate to that. I never recall getting into trouble during my school years. Interestingly, that particular incident made it onto Wikipedia. I once wrote an essay on Doctor Who which was discovered and published by a not-so-nice newspaper. However, I did not face any consequences for it and actually received a good grade.

Who would win in a fight between Crowley, The Doctor and Scrooge McDuck? AlistairDionysus

Perhaps it is Scrooge McDuck. He appears to possess an incredible ability to withstand any obstacle. He is much hardier than Crowley or The Doctor, who often find themselves confronting disaster. Scrooge McDuck, on the other hand, appears unbothered by any challenge.

Your singing voice is beautiful! Would you be interested in participating in a musical? Beatrice_Tate, gaityr, laibarra622, and Luigii

I am skilled at cooking curry, but I have no plans to become a restaurant owner. Would I consider participating in The Masked Singer? I am a huge fan of the show. My eight-year-old daughter was ecstatic when people speculated that I, as the lead singer of Kaiser Chiefs, was a contestant on the show week after week. She was ultimately disappointed when it was revealed that I was not involved.

If you were a cheese, what kind would you be? BrianBraddock
I have developed a strong liking for paneer curries. Paneer has a unique texture that falls in between hard and soft, which makes it seem like I have put a lot of consideration into my statement.

What’s the last item you snatched from a set? NataliaBCN

I am currently reviewing items that I may have taken without permission. It could be due to the upbringing we discussed earlier. I have a tendency to take things without asking and it weighs heavily on my conscience. When a new sonic screwdriver toy was released, I was gifted one but I ended up giving it away out of my generosity. However, I now have some regrets about that decision.

As Dennis Nilsen in Des.

Your portrayal of serial killer Dennis Nilsen [in ITV’s Des] was truly terrifying. How do you prepare for a role like that? YorkshireExPat

With individuals like Dennis Nilsen, there is a substantial amount of literature available. There is also recorded footage of him. Therefore, one must fully immerse themselves in the material and then draw connections to the character portrayed in the script. It was important for us to avoid portraying the story from Nilsen’s perspective in Des. It is not possible to expect the audience to sympathize or comprehend someone like Nilsen. Instead, the focus is on how he was able to commit these heinous acts and then eventually get caught. This may leave the audience questioning how someone who is just like any other human could engage in such atrocious behavior without being noticed or understood by the rest of society.

If you had the opportunity to be reborn as someone else for a day, who would you pick? TopTramp

I asked my wife to observe my behavior and point out any irritations, in order to gain a better perspective and empathize with her discomfort.
