Neil Warnock compared the VAR technology to the Horizon Post Office software after his team, Aberdeen, had a potential winning goal disallowed due to a close offside call in a thrilling six-goal match against Motherwell.
Warnock quipped about being fired when Motherwell quickly gained a three-goal lead in just 26 minutes, courtesy of Theo Bair scoring twice and Adam Devine also finding the net. Due to Richard Jensen’s absence due to illness, Warnock had initially set up his defense with one centre-back and two full-backs, but his decision to make a double substitution at the half-hour mark immediately paid off.
Angus MacDonald, the centre-back, and Duk, the attacker, were substituted in for midfielders Shayden Morris and Dante Polvara. In less than 30 seconds after Motherwell made a mistake during their own throw-in, Duk, the substitute, scored.
By the 50th minute, Aberdeen had tied up the game with goals from Stefan Gartenmann and Duk, as Motherwell remained susceptible to set-pieces.
Both teams had potential goals ruled out – Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski for being offside and Motherwell’s Harry Paton was denied after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. Miovski appeared to be even with the last Motherwell defender and Warnock was not convinced by the referee Kevin Clancy’s trust in the VAR system.
“I can’t believe it, VAR,” exclaimed Warnock. “He actually said it’s just a computer. I’m pretty sure it’s the Horizon computer. You can’t convince me that was offside. I saw the lines and I don’t think it was offside. I have no idea how they make these decisions.”
After Motherwell scored three goals, Warnock quickly took action to make changes. However, he acknowledged that the chairman, Dave Cormack, may have had similar thoughts.
He stated that he had been pondering about the flight schedule for tomorrow’s trip to Cornwall and was anticipating a call from Dave on the sidelines. Unfortunately, Jensen was unable to join us today due to illness, so we made some adjustments and thought we could still perform well, but it turned out we were mistaken.
Credit goes to the boys, despite being behind 3-0 there was a chance for everything to fall apart, but once we made the substitutions, we had a good time and I personally enjoyed watching them.

Stuart Kettlewell, the manager of Motherwell, expressed his disappointment with VAR when Paton’s goal was ruled out due to Butcher’s push on McGrath. Kettlewell stated that there were multiple instances of contact in the box, and although Butcher had his hands on his opponent’s back, he did not push him back several yards.
“Was the mistake clearly evident? He claimed it was, but based on the multiple angles I’ve viewed, I do not believe there was any contact that caused him to collide with his goalkeeper.”
I perceived it as being somewhat gentle, but if we continue to examine it repeatedly, are we searching for something that isn’t readily apparent?

Kettlewell expressed disappointment with his team’s defense during set-pieces, which resulted in Aberdeen scoring goals. This included Duk’s first goal, which came from a throw-in by Motherwell.
He mentioned that there are three opportunities to restart in the game and if we perform better, we will win. This allows me to concentrate on it and teach the younger players.
The Rangers caught up to Celtic in the Premiership standings after defeating Ross County 3-1, but their lack of efficiency prevented them from taking first place.

In the added time of the first half, Dessers scored his second goal, bringing relief to the frustrated Gers fans who had seen their team miss multiple chances. However, more opportunities were wasted in the second half before defender John Souttar finally headed in a third goal near the end.
After finally completing all of their scheduled matches with Celtic, the Govan team is tied in both points and goal difference with the Hoops. However, they have scored four less goals than their Old Firm competitors.
