Margot Robbie has addressed the backlash surrounding the perceived Oscar snub for her film, stating that the film has already made a significant impact on society.

The actress, who was recognized for her work as a producer on the popular movie Barbie by Mattel, was excluded from the list of nominees for best actress when the nominations were revealed earlier this month. This caused frustration among internet users. Greta Gerwig, the writer and director of the film, was also not included in the best director category, despite receiving a nomination for best adapted screenplay.

Actor Ryan Gosling, who was nominated for best supporting actor for his performance in the movie, expressed his disappointment that he and his co-star, America Ferrera, were not included in their respective categories. He believes their work deserves recognition just like the other deserving nominees. Ferrera, who is also a nominee, shares this sentiment.

During a recent roundtable discussion, Robert Downey Jr. expressed his disappointment with the nominations for best supporting actor, specifically mentioning Margot Robbie’s performance in Oppenheimer.

According to Deadline, Robbie stated at a recent panel that it is impossible to feel unhappy when you are aware of how fortunate you are. He also expressed his belief that Greta should receive a nomination for her directing skills, as her accomplishment with the film was a rare and extraordinary experience. He acknowledged the exceptional quality of all the films released this year.

The nominees for Best Actress were Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall, Emma Stone for Poor Things, Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon, Carey Mulligan for Maestro, and Annette Bening for Nyad.

In 2023, Barbie achieved massive success, earning $1.4 billion globally and receiving eight nominations for the Oscars. In response to this, Robbie stated, “I believe it’s more significant than just us or this movie, or even our industry.” She expressed her excitement about the film being acknowledged by the Academy, saying she was “beyond thrilled.”

“We embarked on a mission to bring about a change in culture, to have an impact and make a difference,” Robbie expressed. “And it has not only accomplished that, but even more than we could have imagined. That in itself is the ultimate reward from all of our efforts.”

The Academy Awards ceremony will occur on March 10th.
