Morocco made it to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, a feat they have never achieved before, let alone qualify for the World Cup like they did just over a year ago.
If they were to emerge victorious, or even prevent Morocco from winning today, it would create a ripple effect across the continent.
The Africa Cup of Nations has begun and Morocco’s journey starts with a match against the underestimated Tanzania at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro.
The Atlas Lions are entering this tournament with high expectations, following their impressive performance in the 2022 World Cup semi-finals in Qatar. However, despite having only won one AFCON title in the 1970s, the team is not accustomed to being considered favorites before the tournament. Nevertheless, with a talented roster featuring Yassine Bounou in goal, Sofyan Amrabat from Manchester United, and world-class full-back Achraf Hakimi, it is expected that they will pass today’s challenge and avoid a disappointing start to the AFCON like other well-known teams such as Egypt, Ghana, and Nigeria have faced.
The game will begin at 5pm in the UK. Updates on the team will be available soon. In the meantime, check out Yara El-Shaboury’s informative article on Morocco’s current status.
