Unfortunately, Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Kooyong Classic on Thursday. The previous winner of the US Open was scheduled to compete against 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva in the Melbourne suburbs, but she is not listed on Thursday’s lineup of matches.
Earlier this week, she decided to not participate in a charity match and it was said that she was experiencing discomfort after her Monday practice session.
Raducanu is currently getting ready for the Australian Open, which will only be her second tournament since having surgery on her wrist and ankle that greatly affected her 2023 season.
The British player, currently ranked 299th, utilized a protected ranking for the first major tournament of the year. She returned to competition last week in Auckland but was eliminated in the second round by Elina Svitolina.
Unfortunately, Raducanu has faced various injuries since her notable victory in 2021. In her previous match against Svitolina, she had to wear supportive tape on her right leg. Despite this setback, the 21-year-old has been practicing at Melbourne Park in preparation for the upcoming tournament, where she has secured a spot in the main draw.
