Nikola Kalinic, a retired Croatian football player, has recently joined Hajduk Split for the remainder of the season. As part of the agreement, he will receive a salary of €1 (equivalent to 86p).
Kalinic began his professional journey with Hajduk, appearing in his first game during the 2005-06 season. After leaving at the expiration of his contract, he has returned for a third time just five months later. He will turn 36 on Friday and was not under contract with any team after taking a break. The player stated that this was the simplest agreement he has ever made with the club and revealed his salary.
The director of Hajduk, Mindaugas Nikolicius, stated that Nikola’s goal is to assist the team in winning the title after a 19 year drought. Currently, the team is leading the Croatian league by six points, with Rijeka following closely behind with a game in hand.
Kalinic has experience in the Premier League with Blackburn, Serie A with Fiorentina, Milan, Roma, and Verona, and La Liga with Atlético Madrid. According to the club, he will be wearing his familiar No 9 jersey from Hajduk, after Aleksandar Trajkovski decided to switch to No 27 voluntarily.
