Cristale
From Brixton, London
If you are a fan of Central Cee, Little Simz, and Kwengface, this is the recommended choice for you.
Next in 2024, there will be a new mixtape release called “Mixtape”, and also a Netflix drama titled “The Kitchen”.
This Brixton rapper is not only a sensation in the UK, but also globally with her sharp lyrics and impressive flow. Her rhymes are technical masterpieces, with words seamlessly weaving into the rhythm. She surprises listeners with unexpected word choices, such as pairing tinnitus with Leviticus and Ulez with Clueless. What sets Cristale apart is her ability to adapt to various rap styles, from callous taunting to introspection, and infusing her Jamaican roots into dancehall tracks. While she excels in the thrilling UK drill genre, she also brings something fresh to the table, as seen in her minimalistic track “Roadents.” Despite being only 22 years old, she is a talent to watch out for both in music and acting, as she will be starring in the socially conscious dystopian drama “The Kitchen” on Netflix in January.
Tara Clerkin Trio
From Bristol, UK
Suggestions:
If you enjoy listening to Mica Levi, Julia Holter, and Broadcast, you might also like these artists.
Playing at the 100 Club in London on February 26th.
This group, which has been in the making for a long time, originated in the 2010 music scene in Bristol that revolved around the Howling Owl label. It grew from the city’s emerging improv community and gradually transformed from the eight-member Tara Clerkin Band to this trio. The name of the trio is a playful nod to jazz groups associated with the ECM record label. Their latest EP, On the Turning Ground, features Clerkin, brothers Patrick Benjamin and Sunny-Joe Paradisos, and their unique blend of dub, minimalist jazz, and field recordings of baroque string and lute music. The recording captures a fresh and vibrant sound, reminiscent of the first day of spring. Amidst this enchanting atmosphere, there is a perfect pop song called Marble Walls, with its serene and tranquil sound and a delightful “ba da daaa!” vocal fanfare that celebrates life’s simple pleasures. list
Next on the list is the first album release and the setlist for the Download festival.
The genre of metalcore, characterized by a blend of heavy metal and hardcore punk with dynamic changes, is thriving. Heriot is one of the heaviest bands in this genre, with powerful riffs and intense vocals. Although they have been around for almost ten years, the addition of Brummie vocalist-guitarist Debbie Gough and the removal of their pre-2020 music have brought them to a new level (version 2.0). Their recent EP, Profound Morality, features dark and demonic chants accompanied by distortion, while their single Demure has gained popularity for its intense and all-encompassing sound.
Discovery Zone
From New York
If you enjoy Air, Japanese city pop, and Laurie Anderson.
2019
Next in line is the release of Quantum Web, the latest album by RVNG on March 8, 2019.
The music of Berlin-based producer JJ Weihl, also known as Discovery Zone, is influenced by advanced concepts such as cybernetics, AI, and the ideas of Marshall McLuhan. However, her music has a delicate and otherworldly quality to it. Similar to Oneohtrix Point Never, Weihl incorporates a unique filter and a love for vintage commercials into her music. Her dreamy, electro-infused pop songs are both shiny and catchy, evoking a sense of wonder reminiscent of experiencing old technology for the first time. Her live performances add an extra layer of charm, as she skillfully incorporates her high-concept art into her music using a simple theremin. LS

The recent resurgence of shoegaze and trance music has sparked a wave of nostalgia for the 1990s. There is speculation that the post-trip-hop sound of artists like Morcheeba and Lemon Jelly could be the next to make a comeback. Despite this, a duo known as a.s.o., consisting of singer-songwriter Alia Seror-O’Neill (also known as Alias Error) and producer Lewie Day (also known as Tornado Wallace), have managed to create a successful debut album by incorporating elements of this plodding chillout-compilation style. Their self-titled album, released in 2023, has been praised as one of the top underground releases of the year. Songs like “My Baby’s Got It Out for Me,” “Falling Under,” and “Rain Down” showcase production similar to that of William Orbit, with laid-back beats reminiscent of a Goan hippy retreat. However, the duo also incorporates Massive Attack-style basslines and thick ambient textures, while Seror-O’Neill’s vocals draw comparisons to FKA twigs, Carla dal Forno, and Lana Del Rey. The track “Thinking” has been likened to Air experimenting with dub reggae, and “Love in the Darkness” and “Cold Feeling” could easily be mistaken for lost coldwave singles. Major record labels are already showing interest in signing them.
The New Eves
From Brighton, UK
Check out The Raincoats, the Velvet Underground, and the Roches for similar music recommendations.
Next up, there will be more opportunities to attend singles events, music festivals, and tours during the spring season.
In 2024, the New Eves, a band that embraces flouncy white dresses, stands out among their indie-folk collective Broadside Hacks. They are influenced by Daisy Rickman, another up-and-coming artist in 2024. Despite being part of a traditional genre, Nina Winder-Lind, Kate Mager, Ella Russell, and Violet Farrer bring a unique twist to their music with the inclusion of cello, violin, and flute alongside traditional instruments. Their punk-inspired sound is both energizing and unsettling, drawing inspiration from bands like the Raincoats and the Roches. Like their predecessors, the New Eves also have a witty side, as seen in their song “Original Sin” which references their biblical namesake and suggests making apple pie if God denies you apples.
Ceechynaa
From Hertfordshire
If you enjoy listening to artists like Cardi B, City Girls, and Loski.
Next month, a new single will be released.
“The overall sentiment of online comments was that people initially watched Ceechynaa’s viral UK drill tracks, Legal Baby and Last Laugh, as a joke, but were pleasantly surprised by their quality. Despite initially coming to mock her accent, viewers found themselves nodding along and enjoying the clever lyrics and skill displayed in her performance of Last Laugh in Leicester Square. Ceechynaa, a teenager, confidently expresses her disdain for men and their attempts to seek healing through her. She playfully acknowledges the irony of embodying the image others have placed upon her and using it to create music, as she shared on TikTok.”
MJ Lenderman
From North Carolina, US
“Recommendations in the style of Neil Young for Wednesday, featuring Waxahatchee.”
The next album, which will be the fifth solo release, is anticipated to be released in 2024.
MJ Lenderman’s rise to fame has been rapid, transforming him from an underground artist in Asheville to a beloved indie sensation. His 2022 album, “Boat Songs,” has captured the hearts of fans, with a sound reminiscent of Neil Young’s raw energy or Jason Molina’s reflective perspective. Alongside his girlfriend Karly Hartzman’s band, Wednesday, Lenderman has been touring for the past year. In 2024, he is expected to break into the mainstream and collaborate on one of the most highly anticipated indie rock albums of the year (details still to be announced). This success is well-deserved. Lenderman brings a fresh take on southern rock, with his mastery of both gritty and effortless guitar work and his poetic lyrics that are both sincere and sardonic, mythical and mundane, finding beauty in vulnerability.
