Unfortunately, Andy Murray’s training for the Australian Open was interrupted due to a disappointing defeat in the first round against Grigor Dimitrov, who was seeded second, at the Brisbane International.

Unfortunately, the Scottish player who was not expected to win, was on track to move forward in the tournament after winning the first set in a tense match against two previous champions on Pat Rafter Arena. However, Dimitrov made a comeback and ultimately won 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, causing Murray to suffer another early defeat. This was reminiscent of their meeting in the second round of last year’s US Open.

The 14th-ranked player in the world will compete against either Li Tu, a qualifier from Australia, or Daniel Altmaier from Germany in the second round.

Murray returned to singles competition after a defeat in the Paris Masters and an injury that prevented him from playing for Great Britain in the Davis Cup finals. Despite a close match, he managed to secure the first set by taking advantage of his opponent’s mistakes in the 10th game.

Dimitrov calmly replied to even the score by narrowly winning a more hectic second set that concluded with both players struggling to maintain their serves. The Bulgarian’s attempt to tie the match was supported by a remarkable baseline smash that saved a crucial break point, despite playing with a damaged string.

Murray, a three-time winner of the grand slam, showed clear frustration as the momentum shifted, and put up minimal opposition in the final set which was dominated by Dimitrov. The match lasted for approximately two and a half hours.
