Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer praised the individuals who saved his life when he experienced a cardiac arrest while playing in a match against Bournemouth earlier this month.
On December 16th, during a Premier League match at Vitality Stadium, the 29-year-old defender fell down in the 59th minute, causing the game to be called off.
Lockyer was released from the hospital after five days following the placement of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
On New Year’s Eve, the Welshman posted a comment on Instagram for the first time since the incident, updating his current state and thanking those who assisted him.
“I would like to express that I am currently in good health and feeling back to my normal self following the cardiac arrest I experienced while in Bournemouth,” stated Lockyer. “I owe my recovery to the heroic efforts of the players, staff, doctors, and paramedics.”
“I am grateful that I was in the company of these heroes when this occurred. They rescued me and I will always remember what they did for me.”
Worries about Lockyer’s well-being surfaced when he fainted during the Championship playoff final win against Coventry in May. This prompted him to undergo a surgical procedure to address his atrial fibrillation. He was back in action for the beginning of the new season.
Phil Ballett, Abbey Clark, Dean Fernee, and Adam Todhunter were selected by Lockyer, along with Dr Craig Roberts, Dr Mufeed Ni’man, and Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing.
Simon Parsell, Chris Phillips, and Dr. Amos Ogunkoya were also featured in the main photo of an Instagram post that had a long caption.
Lockyer expressed his sadness for not being able to participate, but he is proud to see the team continue to fight without him. He has witnessed their victories against Newcastle and Sheffield United, although they lost 3-2 to Chelsea on Saturday. The determination and resilience displayed by the team in the last three games has lifted his spirits. He will do his best to support the manager and the club in any way possible. The specifics of his involvement will be determined after he meets with specialists in the upcoming year.

It is crucial for as many individuals as possible to learn CPR. This skill has the power to save lives, including my own.
“Take a look at the British Heart Foundation’s website for fundamental information or consider enrolling in a course. You never know when you may require this knowledge.”
I am incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support I have received. Thank you to everyone who has sent me messages, letters, gifts, and well wishes. The banners and chants at the ground were incredibly meaningful to me and my family.
I would like to express my gratitude to Bournemouth, Gary Sweet, Rob Edwards, and Luton Town for their unwavering support towards my family during this period.
I wish everyone a joyous New Year and abundance of blessings for 2024.
