The relatives of a victim who died during a chaotic rush at a concert in London are asking the artist to reach out to their followers for any details about the incident, a year after it occurred.
On this day last year, 23-year-old security guard Gaby Hutchinson and 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo were fatally injured in a stampede at the O2 Brixton Academy. The incident occurred when a large group of fans without tickets were reportedly allowed entry to see Nigerian artist Asake.
The location was in danger of permanently shutting down following the occurrence, as the Metropolitan police advised the council to revoke its permit. However, it was able to remain open as long as it adheres to 77 new conditions that are thorough and strict, set by Lambeth council’s subcommittee for licensing.
Kelsey Hutchinson, age 26 from Billericay, Essex, requested Asake to assist the police in their investigation by asking his followers to provide any pertinent details.
She stated that the singer holds a great amount of sway over his audience and followers, and believes the most effective way for anyone to assist the police would be for the singer to encourage them to share any information or recordings they may have from that night. The singer holds the most influence in this situation.
Asake has expressed condolences for the victims but has not made any requests for information regarding the incident.
According to Hutchinson, the singer has not officially recognized our family.
The Metropolitan police have shared surveillance footage of individuals they want to engage with regarding the overcrowding incident. As part of the inquiry, the police have made one detainment in October.
Hutchinson, her sister Nina, and Ikumelo’s parents, Yetunde Olodo and Anthony Ikumelo, have made a renewed request for any available information.
Anthony Ikumelo, a 63-year-old resident of Canning Town, expressed that there are many unanswered questions and encouraged anyone with knowledge to come forward.
The speaker expressed uncertainty about the circumstances leading to her death and emphasized the importance of obtaining more details in order to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
A 60-year-old resident of Stratford named Olodo expressed their desire for justice. They mentioned that Rebecca, who has two young children, is currently missing and her children are starting to ask questions about her whereabouts. Olodo stated that it is difficult to explain the situation to the children, who are only five and seven years old. They are pleading for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help bring justice for Rebecca.
The lead detective, Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Penney, stated: “We are continuing to work diligently and tirelessly in order to determine the specific circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. We have interviewed certain individuals and companies that we suspect may be linked to the tragedy.”
Asake representatives have been asked for their input.
