According to authorities, a man from Canada has been accused of aiding in the deaths of over a dozen young individuals in Ontario by sending them poisonous substances through the mail. On Tuesday, he was charged with 14 counts of second-degree murder.
Kenneth Law, age 58, was previously accused of 14 instances of assisting or encouraging suicide.
According to authorities, Law mailed approximately 160 dangerous substances to individuals in Canada and additionally shipped over 1,200 packages to various addresses in over 40 different countries.
Inspector Simon James from the York police force in Toronto’s northern district stated during a televised press conference that the number of charges being laid is of great importance and has not been overlooked by the investigative team.
The individuals affected ranged in age from 16 to 36, but James chose not to disclose their names or provide reasoning for the upgraded charges against Law. He also stated that he was unaware of the number of deaths that may have occurred abroad.
James stated that they are maintaining cooperation and collaboration with law enforcement agencies worldwide.
According to official records and statements, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp reports that Law may have been involved in 117 deaths globally, with the majority occurring in Britain. Authorities in New Zealand, France, Ireland, Italy, Germany, and Switzerland have confirmed that Law sent packages to their respective countries.
Police claim that Law utilized several websites to contact his victims. He is currently incarcerated and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 19th.
James stated that a difficulty we encounter is that some of these websites are situated in foreign countries where Canadian laws do not have jurisdiction.
If Law is convicted, he will be remembered as one of the most notorious perpetrators of mass murder in Canadian history. In April 2020, a 51-year-old man killed 22 individuals in the Atlantic province of Nova Scotia before being fatally shot by law enforcement.
