Championship roundup: Millwall’s rise continues as Tanganga sinks Leeds

Japhet Tanganga fired in-form Millwall to a 1-0 win over Leeds to move the hosts up to fifth in the Championship table.

The defender struck in the 40th minute to secure a fourth consecutive 1-0 victory for Neil Harris’s side and hand Leeds just their second league defeat of the season.

Since Harris took over in February, Millwall have taken more points than any other team in the Championship – with this victory seeing them overtake Leeds’s tally from the same period. They were fourth from bottom when they played Plymouth just two weeks ago. Defeat means third-placed Leeds missed the opportunity to put pressure on league leaders Sunderland, who were held to a goalless draw by Preston.

The goalkeeper Viktor Johansson starred for Stoke as they beat Blackburn 2-0. Million Manhoef broke the deadlock after the break for the Potters and Johansson made a series of superb saves before Tom Cannon’s 85th-minute penalty made the game safe. Stoke move up to 14th in the table, one point behind 10th-placed Rovers.

Jerry Yates starred as Derby earned their first away win by beating Coventry 2-1. The forward scored the opener after 11 minutes and his strike after the break deflected in off Bobby Thomas. Derby withstood a potential late comeback from their hosts after Coventry pulled one back through Tatsuhiro Sakamoto. Luton moved out of the relegation zone after Jacob Brown’s goal earned a 1-0 win over Cardiff.
