Ten Hag urges United to show more resilience, saying they have been too inconsistent.

After the humiliating 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, Erik ten Hag acknowledged that Manchester United lacks the ability to maintain the standard of a top-tier team.

In the fifth minute, Dominic Solanke scored a goal and later in the second half, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi also scored to give Bournemouth their first victory at Old Trafford. Manchester United’s performance was uncoordinated and disappointing, following their 2-1 win against Chelsea on Wednesday, which highlights a trend of inconsistent performances and outcomes.

Ten Hag stated that our team lacks consistency and we need to work together to improve. Our performance has been inconsistent, even though we have the skills to perform well in every game and every third day.

“We must make improvements as a team, that is undeniable. We need to become more resilient and prepared from the beginning of the game. As I mentioned on Friday, it’s impossible to compete in this league without playing at the highest level because you will be outmatched, as we saw in the first five minutes against a strong transition team. We cannot afford to give them an easy advantage. I take full responsibility for not properly preparing my team for the game and I was thoroughly disappointed with our performance at the start.”

Bruno Fernandes, the captain, expressed the same thoughts as his manager that Manchester United lacks consistency. He stated, “In order to be among the top teams, we must perform consistently every three days.” He acknowledged the challenge of facing tough opponents who play good football and possess intensity and skills. Therefore, it is important for the team to maintain consistency in all aspects of their game. In another setback for United, Fernandes will not be available for their upcoming league match against Liverpool on Sunday.

Solanke commended the influence of Andoni Iraola following a victory that resulted in 13 out of a potential 15 points. “We’re beginning to find our rhythm,” Solanke remarked. “With a new coach joining the team, we were initially adjusting to a new style. But in the past few weeks, we have really come together and it’s reflected in our performance on the field.”
