A crash on the Beijing metro during rush hour resulted in over 100 people sustaining fractures.

According to state media, a rear-end collision on an above-ground portion of the Beijing metro during rush hour resulted in 102 individuals sustaining fractures.

In recent days, Beijing – a city where such occurrences are uncommon – has experienced heavy snowfall. This has disrupted operations and caused transportation delays throughout the city.

According to initial reports, the incident took place on Thursday evening around 7pm, when the final two cars of a metro train became detached from the rest of the train.

According to state broadcaster CCTV on Friday at approximately 11pm, 515 individuals were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Of those, 102 had suffered fractures.

According to CCTV, by 6am on Friday, 423 individuals had been discharged from the hospital. The news source also reported that 67 others were still being treated and 25 people were being monitored. State media stated that there were no reported deaths.

According to the report, an initial inquiry into the incident determined that the snowy conditions created slippery tracks and a decrease in signal quality, leading to a collision from behind.

Several people on social media claimed to have witnessed passengers collapsing and experiencing back discomfort.

Videos and pictures depicted passengers on the ground and limited lighting, as certain travelers resorted to using emergency hammers in an attempt to shatter the train windows for escape.

In previous videos, firefighters were observed assisting in the evacuation of an older rider, while stranded commuters navigated through heavy snow to exit the area.

The train was on an elevated track when the accident occurred near Xi’erqi Station while en route to Changping district in the northern part of the city.

“We deeply regret the incident that took place this evening,” stated the Beijing Subway, the operator of the train, on Weibo.

“If any passengers who were unaccompanied during the evacuation and are now feeling unwell, they can reach out to us at any point. We will cover the expenses for their care,” stated the authorities.
