Nicolas Cage has announced his intentions to retire from acting in the film industry. He stated that he plans to “say adios” and move on from his career in film.

According to Nicolas Cage, he intends to end his career in film acting and has approximately “three or four more movies” left to complete before focusing on television.

During an interview with Uproxx, Cage expressed that after 45 years and over 100 movies, he believes he has said all he needs to say through cinema. He would like to end on a positive note and bid farewell.

He stated, “I believe I need to make three or four additional films before I reach that level, and then potentially transition to a different form of showcasing my acting.”

Cage expressed his desire for Dream Scenario, a highly-rated fantasy comedy where he portrays an academic who invades people’s dreams, to be his last movie. However, he mentioned having other obligations that he must fulfill.

Cage expressed a newfound interest in streaming immersive episodic television, citing the popular show Breaking Bad as a source of inspiration. He remarked on the ability for characters to fully express themselves over an extended period of time, referencing a memorable scene in which Bryan Cranston’s character spends an hour staring at a suitcase. Cage believes television may be the next logical step in his career due to the limitations of time in feature films.

Actor Cage, who has had a career in cinema since the 1980s, with his initial screen credit (under his birth name Nicolas Coppola) in the teenage comedy Fast Times at Ridgemont High, also indicated that personal reasons were influencing his decision. He stated, “I desire to have some meaningful moments with my loved ones… My children and I have a new daughter, and it would be wonderful to find a TV show that films in one location so we can all be together without constant departures. On a personal level, that would be fantastic.”
