Roman Safiullin secured the most significant victory of his career, by defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the Paris Masters. Despite an early setback in both sets, the qualifier managed to stage a remarkable comeback, clinching a shocking 6-3, 6-4 win. Safiullin handed second seed Alcaraz his first defeat in an opening match in 2023 as he received a bye in the first round. The defeat represents a massive blow to the Spaniard’s bid to finish the season atop the ATP Rankings for the second straight year.
