European roundup: Napoli go top in Serie A, Sevilla’s Padilla denies Athletic

While Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid played out a spicy 1-1 draw marred by crowd trouble, elsewhere in La Liga Giovani Lo Celso’s 85th-minute goal gave Real Betis a 1-0 home victory over Espanyol.

Sevilla punished the goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala’s sending off as Alex Padilla struck deep into second half added-time to secure a 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao. Iago Aspas made it four goals and two assists in eight games for Celta Vigo as his late strike earned a share of the spoils with Girona in a 1-1 draw.

In Italy, Napoli beat Monza 2-0 after Matteo Politano and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia goals to go top of Serie A, while Mattéo Guendouzi, Boulaye Dia and Tijjani Noslin were on hand to help Lazio to a 3-2 win at Torino.

Cesc Fàbregas’s Como made it two wins on the spin as Patrick Cutrone’s double helped them to a 3-2 win over 10-man Verona.

Bryan Cristante and Niccolò Pisilli scored late on to cancel out Joel Pohjanpalo’s earlier goal as Roma came from behind to beat Venezia 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico. Empoli held Fiorentina to a goalless draw.

In Germany, Jens Stage scored a hat-trick as Werder Bremen came from 0-3 down after 12 minutes to beat Hoffenheim 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.

Omar Marmoush and Shuto Machino scored two goals apiece but it was Frankfurt who came out on top when they beat Kiel 4-2 away from home.

Liam Rosenoir’s Strasbourg toppled Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille in a 1-0 home win in Ligue 1. Lyon showed signs of improvement as Malick Fofana’s last grasp 95th-minute winner gave them a 2-1 victory over Toulouse.
