Manchester City announced that they have a well-defined plan in place for their women’s team and have extended head coach Gareth Taylor’s contract until 2027.

Taylor became head coach in 2020 and has faced some pressure during his time in the position. However, the team is tied with Chelsea for points at the forefront of the Women’s Super League. Additionally, they have advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the semi-finals of the League Cup this season.

Nils Nielsen, the director of women’s football, expressed his satisfaction with Gareth’s decision to continue his valuable contributions to our program for the upcoming years. Our vision for progress is well-defined, and having Gareth as our leader is crucial to its success. With this settled, we can now concentrate on finishing this season successfully and getting ready for the next few seasons by implementing our strategy.

In the 2022-23 season, City was unable to secure a spot in the Champions League. However, they have currently won 12 consecutive games in all competitions and most recently defeated Chelsea in the WSL while simultaneously tying with Emma Hayes’ team for the top spot in the standings.

“I am thrilled to extend my commitment to City for the next three years. Our goal is to build a sustainable and successful long-term project.”

Our goal has always been to achieve top ranking and we have successfully attained it. This accomplishment required a tremendous amount of effort from our team behind the scenes. The players have fully embraced our vision and objectives.

On Thursday, City will host Chelsea for the semi-finals of the League Cup, followed by a match against Tottenham away for the FA Cup on Sunday.

Charlotte O’Neill, the managing director of women’s football at City, expressed her satisfaction with Gareth’s decision to remain with the team for the next three years.
