Celta Vigo’s decision to terminate the contract of Rafa Benítez and his team comes just eight months after their hiring. The team currently sits in 17th place in La Liga, with only a two-point margin above the relegation zone. This follows their 4-0 defeat against Real Madrid, the league leaders, on Sunday.

Celta released a statement stating that the team did not meet the expected results under the former managers of Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Chelsea. The club expressed their thanks to Rafa Benítez and his team for their honesty and professionalism during their time with the team.

Celta faced Cadíz and Almería, who were also struggling, in their two recent matches before their game against Madrid. They gave up a goal to Cadíz in the 10th minute of stoppage time in the second half, despite being ahead 2-0, but managed to defeat Almería. Almería, who are currently at the bottom of the league and have not won a game, had a player receive a red card during the match.
