The family of Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán announced on Saturday that the 72-year-old is currently receiving medical attention for a heart condition.
According to a statement on Durán’s Instagram account from his family, the former champion in four weight classes has experienced a health issue related to an atrioventricular blockage.
“We are anticipating the outcome to update on his condition,” the statement remarked. “We express our gratitude to our family, friends, and all those who are keeping him in their prayers.”
The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaimán, stated on social media that Durán was currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Panama.
“His family is joined by the world in prayers for his successful and prompt recovery, he is a champion and will win this fight,” Sulaimán said in the post on X, formerly Twitter.
