The Princess of Wales disclosed in a televised message on Friday night that she is receiving chemotherapy as part of her cancer treatment.

Here is the statement in full:

I would like to express my gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support and understanding during my recovery from surgery. I am truly grateful for all the kind messages I have received.

I have faced many challenges in the past few months with my family, but I have been fortunate to have a fantastic medical team who have provided me with excellent care. I am extremely thankful for their support.

In January, I had a significant operation on my abdomen in London. Initially, it was believed that my condition was not cancerous. Thankfully, the surgery was a success.

After the surgery, further examinations revealed the presence of cancer. My doctors recommended that I receive preventive chemotherapy, and I am currently undergoing this treatment in its initial phase.

This was incredibly unexpected and William and I have been actively working on dealing with this privately for the well-being of our young family. Understandably, this has been a gradual process.

In order for me to begin my treatment, I needed time to heal after a major surgery. However, it was also crucial to take the time to properly explain the situation to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that they could understand and to assure them that I will be alright.

As I mentioned to them, I am feeling well and improving every day by directing my attention towards actions that promote my mental, physical, and emotional healing.

Having William by my side brings me a lot of comfort and reassurance. I am also grateful for the love, support, and kindness shown by many of you. It means a lot to both of us.

We kindly ask for your understanding as our family requires some time, space, and privacy during my treatment.

I have always found great joy in my work and I eagerly anticipate my return once I am able. However, at the moment, my main priority is to fully recover.

During this moment, I am also remembering and considering those whose lives have been impacted by cancer. To anyone battling this illness, in any manifestation, please do not give up or lose hope. You have support and are not alone.
