Although he has portrayed numerous roles as mobsters, murderers, vigilantes, and psychopaths, Robert De Niro believes there is one character he cannot redeem: Donald Trump.
The candid film star discussed his reasons for not supporting Trump’s potential re-election on the talk show Real Time With Bill Maher, encouraging viewers to choose Joe Biden as their preferred candidate.
In summary, the two candidates facing each other are Biden and Trump. According to De Niro, we have a choice between living in a pleasant world or a nightmarish one. Choosing Trump will result in a nightmare, while choosing Biden will return us to a state of normalcy.
He added, “I don’t want to experience the same feelings that I had after the 2016 election, like many others, when we were in disbelief that it happened. That guy is absolutely awful.”
De Niro added that he would decline any opportunity to portray Trump.
De Niro stated that he would never cast him as an actor due to an inability to see any positive qualities. He expressed that there is absolutely nothing redeemable about him.
Following Nikki Haley’s announcement on Wednesday, Donald Trump remains the primary candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.
In previous instances, De Niro has often voiced his disapproval of Trump. During the Gotham awards in December, he used his speech to speak out against the former president, stating that he had lied to the public over 30,000 times during his tenure and is still continuing his retaliatory actions. Trump fired back on Truth Social, labeling the two-time Oscar recipient as a “complete failure” and claiming that his acting abilities have declined.
Robert De Niro has been recognized in this year’s Academy Awards for his outstanding performance as a cattle rancher who plans the killings of affluent members of the Osage tribe in the film Killers of the Flower Moon.
