Pierce Brosnan, the actor, expressed remorse for his actions of deviating from the designated path in Yellowstone national park located in the western United States. He was charged and fined by a court in Wyoming for approaching a fragile thermal site.
Brosnan, aged 70, admitted to walking in a thermal area and was punished with a $500 fine. Additionally, he was ordered to make a $1,000 payment to the Yellowstone Forever Geological Fund by the US attorney’s office in the Wyoming district on Thursday.
According to legal records, the actor known for playing James Bond shared pictures on Instagram in November of himself “poses on a thermal feature at Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park,” citing the popular section of the park located in the northern region.
The statement mentioned that there are warning signs in the vicinity cautioning visitors about the hazards of thermal features. It also stated that visitors are required to stay on the designated boardwalks and trails.
Venturing off the designated path in thermal regions can be dangerous due to the fragile ground and scalding water.
On Thursday evening, Brosnan expressed on his Instagram page that he considers himself an environmentalist and has a deep admiration and affection for our natural world.
“Nevertheless, I committed an impulsive error – one that I do not take lightly – by entering a snowy thermal area in Yellowstone National Park in order to capture a photograph. I was unaware of any posted No Trespassing signs warning of danger, and I did not venture into the surrounding area while hiking,” he explained.
I am truly sorry for my mistake and I apologize sincerely for crossing into this delicate area. Yellowstone and all of our National Parks should be protected and maintained for everyone to appreciate. He also emphasized the importance of #StayingOnThePath.
Brosnan has gained recognition for portraying the sophisticated secret agent 007 in four James Bond movies between 1995 and 2002. Additionally, he is known for his performances in the Mamma Mia films, The Thomas Crown Affair, and more recently in Black Adam.
Yellowstone National Park boasts the iconic Old Faithful geyser, which erupts at regular intervals and is surrounded by numerous hot pools of water and mud that emit strong sulfurous odors.
Tourists are cautioned to keep a distance from the park’s wild bison, as there have been incidents of visitors attempting risky selfie shots with them.
