Joni Mitchell’s songs are now available on Spotify again, after a gap of over two years. This comes after her decision to withdraw from the streaming platform in support of Neil Young’s protest against its hosting of anti-vaccine content.

Mitchell did not provide a statement regarding the re-release of her music. However, this development occurred one week after Young announced that his music would be returning to Spotify. This decision was made after the platform terminated its exclusivity deal with Joe Rogan’s podcast. Young, along with 270 scientists and healthcare professionals, had accused the podcast of promoting misinformation about Covid vaccines.

Starting in February, The Joe Rogan Experience podcast has been made accessible on various other platforms such as Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and Amazon Music.

Young stated that he is returning to Spotify because he disagrees with the disinformation podcast features offered by Apple and Amazon. He cannot leave these platforms as he did with Spotify because it would limit his music’s availability to listeners, so he has decided to go back to Spotify.

The well-known lover of audio expressed disappointment in the limited sound quality offered on Spotify. They expressed a desire for all their millions of fans on Spotify to enjoy their songs to the fullest, but also noted that the sound may not be the best quality due to limitations. They urged Spotify to introduce a high-quality option like their competitors Qobuz and Tidal.

Mitchell has recently taken a significant step in her career. After a five-year hiatus due to an aneurysm, she made a comeback with a live performance in July 2022. She also made her debut at the Grammys last month and collaborated with Brandi Carlile and Annie Lennox to cover “I’m Still Standing” at the Gershwin prize concert in tribute to Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It is worth noting that Mitchell was herself awarded the Gershwin prize last year.
