In 2024, the Glastonbury festival will feature performances from popular artists like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA. The lineup will also include a variety of talented artists such as Little Simz, LCD Soundsystem, Burna Boy, and Shania Twain in the iconic “legend” slot. The festival will take place from June 26th to 30th and promises to be an exciting and diverse event.

In a quote from Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, Coldplay’s presence on the Worthy Farm site has been greatly appreciated, to the point where he has offered them the opportunity to come and do the milking at any time. Their relationship with the festival has been long-standing, as they have now become the first act to headline the Pyramid stage five times. Their debut headlining performance in 2002, with only one album released at the time, propelled them into the ranks of popular pop-rock artists. They have since headlined in 2005, 2011, and 2016, and even performed a livestreamed show on the empty Pyramid stage field in place of the cancelled 2021 festival due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In 2024, Coldplay will have an exclusive performance at a European festival, as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour that started in March 2022. This tour has already become the third most profitable tour of all time, following Taylor Swift and Elton John.

The day following the announcement of her third album Radical Optimism, Dua Lipa received recognition for her work. The album has been well-received, with its singles Houdini and Training Season gaining popularity globally. Lipa explained that the album draws inspiration from the concept of gracefully navigating chaos and feeling capable of overcoming any obstacles, perhaps even including the unexpected weather at Glastonbury. She also cites influences from music genres such as psychedelia, trip hop, and Britpop.

In 2016, she performed at Glastonbury for the first time. The following year, she delivered an impressive performance on the John Peel stage (now Woodsies), which attracted a large audience despite the rain causing the tent to overflow. Her upcoming performance as a dance-pop artist on the Pyramid stage is an uncommon choice, but highlights Glastonbury’s growing support of pop music in recent years through artists such as Beyoncé, Adele, Billie Eilish, and Elton John.

SZA, a multi-talented R&B vocalist, is performing at Glastonbury for the first time. Her quick rise to headliner status at the Pyramid stage is the latest achievement in her impressive journey. Her highly acclaimed 2022 album, SOS, is a standout in the R&B genre with its honest depiction of relationship struggles and heartfelt emotion. The album earned three Grammys and SZA was also recognized with nominations for song, record, and album of the year. SOS topped the charts at No 1 in the US and No 2 in the UK.

Shania Twain will be performing during the highly coveted “legend” slot at Sunday teatime in Glastonbury, following in the footsteps of previous headliners such as Diana Ross, Kylie Minogue, and Dolly Parton. The Guardian praised her recent UK tour, stating that it was filled with two hours of hits, wild cowboy and alien performances, and unwavering confidence. With nine Top 10 hits in the UK, including “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman”, Twain is sure to please the crowds and live up to the expectations of this prestigious slot at Glastonbury. In a radio interview with Radio 2, Twain expressed her excitement and gratitude for the booking, stating that it feels like a well-deserved accolade.

Aside from Coldplay, other artists who performed on the Pyramid stage include Little Simz, LCD Soundsystem, Burna Boy, PJ Harvey, Cyndi Lauper, Janelle Monáe, and Michael Kiwanuka. The popular K-pop group Seventeen made history as the first K-pop band to take the stage on the Pyramid.

On the second largest Other stage, Idles will take the spotlight after the immense success of their most recent album, Tangk. They will be accompanied by Disclosure and the National. Representing UK rap will be D-Block Europe, who recently performed for four nights at London’s O2 Arena, as well as Headie One and the Streets. Other bands set to perform include the Last Dinner Party and Two Door Cinema Club. Additionally, there will be a variety of pop artists, such as Camila Cabello, Anne-Marie, and Avril Lavigne.

Recent winners of the Brit award for best group, Jungle, headline West Holts with Justice and Jessie Ware taking the other slots, while James Blake, Gossip and Jamie xx headline Woodsies. Up the hill on the Park stage, Fontaines DC, Peggy Gou and London Grammar headline, with Glastonbury stalwarts Orbital preceding the latter.

The lineup for this event has finally been revealed after months of speculation. Surprisingly, some speculated performers such as Madonna and Bruce Springsteen did not make the cut. Now, the rumor mill will focus on the possibility of secret and unannounced performances from popular artists like The Killers and Kings of Leon, who have gaps in their touring schedule during the event.

In 2024, Glastonbury’s festival will make history by having two female artists as headliners for the first time. This is a significant change from the previous year, where all three headliners were male (Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John). This decision received criticism in some areas, but event organizer Emily Eavis defended it, citing a lack of diversity in the music industry. She remains committed to promoting diversity, evidenced by the initial lineup announcement which featured a nearly equal split of female acts.

Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri backed Eavis, saying on stage at 2023’s festival that the organiser booked women “not because she’s ticking a fucking box to have them on the stages. She’s put us on these stages because she thinks we’re fucking amazing”.

The organizers are set to reveal additional performers in the upcoming weeks.
