Son Heung-min is expected to arrive at Tottenham’s training facility on Thursday following South Korea’s unexpected defeat to Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-finals. He will undergo evaluation before his team’s upcoming Premier League match against Brighton at home on Saturday.
The loss of his country’s 2-0 on Tuesday was a huge blow to Son, especially since they were expected to move on to the final on Saturday. South Korea holds a 23rd ranking in the world, 64 spots higher than Jordan.
South Korea’s tournament was full of excitement, with late goals that gained them recognition for their resilient play. In their first group match, they defeated Bahrain 3-1 and continued to score crucial goals during the second half of their next four games. Unfortunately, they were eliminated by Jordan, but Son, who had a total of three goals throughout the tournament, including a game-winning free-kick in the quarter-finals against Australia, is now shifting his attention back to Spurs.
Before leaving for the Asian Cup in early January, the captain of the club was performing exceptionally well. He had scored 12 goals and provided five assists in the league. However, since his absence, the team has played five matches without him and has only earned five points out of a possible nine in the league. They also suffered a loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup, after defeating Burnley in the previous round.
