Arsenal

Mikel Arteta will have to manage with a limited squad after Arsenal’s lavish spending in the summer was balanced out by a frugal January. The team’s hopes for success in domestic and European competitions will depend on the fitness of their current players, as they were unable to acquire new additions in key positions such as centre-forward and wing. While there was interest from West Ham in Emile Smith Rowe, the club chose to retain him and instead allowed some younger players like Bradley Ibrahim and Lino Sousa to leave permanently. Additionally, Charles Sagoe Jr joined Swansea on a loan deal.

Aston Villa

Unai Emery successfully acquired Morgan Rogers, his top priority, who has the ability to play in various positions in the front line, fitting well into his preferred 4-3-3 formation. This solidified Emery’s belief that Villa did not need additional support for their star player Ollie Watkins. Jhon Durán will take on a supporting role after recovering from a hamstring injury, while Emery has also mentioned the option of Nicolò Zaniolo as a striker. In addition, Villa brought back Kaine Kesler-Hayden from Plymouth to serve as backup for right-back Matty Cash and signed Australian player Joe Gauci as a reserve goalkeeper. These moves were made by manager Ben Fisher.

Notable signings: Morgan Rogers (Middlesbrough, £16m), Joe Gauci (Adelaide United, undisclosed). Notable departures: Leander Dendoncker (loaned to Napoli), Bertrand Traoré (left for free to Villarreal).

Bournemouth

: The Cherries have signed some key players like Alex Scott and Romain Faivre, but have also had to deal with injuries in the full-back position.

The Cherries acquired some of their top targets last summer, including Alex Scott who has been thriving since his £25m transfer. Romain Faivre, who joined last year, has returned from a successful loan at Lorient, which is also owned by Bournemouth’s sponsor, Bill Foley. Kieffer Moore, a fringe player, left for Ipswich, making room for Enes Unal to be loaned in as backup for star striker Dominic Solanke. However, the team is facing a potential issue with multiple injuries in the full-back position. BF: The Cherries have made important signings such as Alex Scott and Romain Faivre, but are also dealing with injuries among their full-backs.

New signings: Enes Unal (on loan from Getafe). Departures: David Brooks (on loan to Southampton), Hamed Traoré (on loan to Napoli), Kieffer Moore (on loan to Ipswich).

Brentford

Brentford’s acquisition of Sergio Reguilón on a temporary basis from Tottenham has filled a crucial void in Thomas Frank’s team at the left-back position. Additionally, the arrival of Iceland’s Hákon Valdimarsson as a goalkeeper adds competition for Mark Flekken. Although they initially backed out of signing highly-regarded teenager Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge due to concerns with his medical, Brentford may reconsider in the future. They have also secured Turkish prospect Yunus Konak as a promising addition to their team.

Hákon Valdimarsson (Elfsborg, £2.6m) and Sergio Reguilón (on loan from Spurs) were the key players brought in, while there were no significant departures.

Brighton

Roberto De Zerbi’s determination was evident when he allowed Mahmoud Dahoud to join Stuttgart on loan, only six months after signing him on a free transfer. The signing of talented left-back Valentín Barco, who had multiple offers from top European clubs, was a major win for the team. However, Barco will have to compete with Pervis Estupiñán for a starting position. The team also made a last-minute attempt to bring in Bryan Gil from Tottenham on loan to provide cover for injured players Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra. Despite interest, Leicester’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was not able to join the team at this time.

Incomings: Valentín Barco from Boca Juniors for £7.9m. Outgoings: Mahmoud Dahoud on loan to Stuttgart.

Burnley

Last summer, a significant amount of money was spent on bringing in 15 new players, which limited the opportunity to strengthen Vincent Kompany’s team. Despite the risk of being relegated to the Championship, the club managed to enhance their offensive capabilities by loaning Chelsea’s striker David Datro Fofana. On the final day of the transfer window, they also acquired Montpellier’s Maxime Estève and Rennes’ Lorenz Assignon for their defense while allowing Connor Roberts to join Leeds.

Key ins: David Datro Fofana (Chelsea, loan), Maxime Estève (Montpellier, loan), Lorenz Assignon (Rennes, loan). Key outs: Michael Obafemi (Millwall, loan), Connor Roberts (Leeds, loan).

Chelsea

Pochettino’s desires to improve his young team were contingent on making sales. Due to financial fair play regulations and their previous spending of £1bn, Chelsea’s ability to spend was restricted. The emphasis on loaning out academy players was largely due to financial considerations. Ian Maatsen was sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund and Armando Broja will be at Fulham for the remainder of the season. No new striker was signed to fill Broja’s spot. Jacob Steinberg.

No input required. Output: David Datro Fofana on loan to Burnley, Ian Maatsen on loan to Borussia Dortmund, Armando Broja on loan to Fulham.

Crystal Palace

productive transfer window saw the arrival of Daniel Muñoz and Adam Wharton filling key positions at right-back and central midfield. However, Nottingham Forest’s attempts to strengthen their attacking options were ultimately unsuccessful, despite showing interest in Maxwel Cornet from West Ham and Chuba Akpom from Ajax. Although they were unable to secure Sam Johnstone in the end, who was being eyed as a potential goalkeeper, it is reported that the England international is unhappy with losing his spot to Dean Henderson, after being a regular member of Gareth Southgate’s squad last year.

New signings: Adam Wharton (Blackburn, £18.5m), Daniel Muñoz (Genk, £8.5m). Departures: None.

Everton

In January, there was minimal activity as expected by the director of football, Kevin Thelwell. This was due to the ongoing appeal against a 10-point deduction for breaking Premier League profit and sustainability regulations. The outcome of this appeal will affect their secondary charge and their chances of avoiding relegation. Keeping the team’s small squad intact was crucial.

Fulham

ilva was visibly disappointed throughout the transfer period, expressing doubt about the possibility of new signings. However, there was a glimmer of hope when Armando Broja was added to the team on loan just before the deadline. Fulham is counting on the arrival of this striker to improve their offensive capabilities, especially with their star player Raúl Jiménez injured. Additionally, they were relieved to keep their key midfielder, João Palhinha. Nevertheless, it seems that there may be underlying issues within the team.

Incoming player: Armando Broja (on loan from Chelsea). Outgoing players: None.

Liverpool

,

It turns out that Liverpool’s lack of activity in the transfer market was not solely due to Jarell Quansah’s impressive progress. The news that Jürgen Klopp will not be managing during the next transfer window has understandably caused the Premier League leaders to remain quiet. Jörg Schmadtke’s final window as sporting director focused on loaning out other players from the academy to get more playing time.

Input: None. Output: None.

Luton

Rob Edwards has kept faith with the economically assembled squad who are making a real fight of Premier League survival, with the Japanese defender Daiki Hashioka the only immediate arrival. The promising centre-back Tom Holmes also signed from Reading but was loaned back until the summer. Niall McVeigh

Key signings: Daiki Hashioka joins Sint-Truiden for £1.7m. Key departures: Ryan Giles on loan to Hull.

Manchester City

The team that won in three competitions made their typical move during the winter transfer period to acquire a promising player from South America, Claudio Echeverri. This follows the signings of Julián Álvarez (January 2022, also from River Plate) and Gabriel Jesus (Palmeiras, August 2016), who also joined but will remain on loan with their respective clubs for the time being. Jamie Jackson

Key ins: Claudio Echeverri (River Plate, £12.5m). Key outs: Kalvin Phillips (West Ham, loan).

Manchester United

Erik ten Hag is currently trying to persuade Sir Jim Ratcliffe to keep him as manager for a significant amount of time. Unfortunately, the recent transfer window did not bring any new players for his team. He is in need of a goalkeeper, center-back, midfielder, and striker. It will likely take at least two transfer windows to address these needs. JJ

No key inputs. Key outputs: Facundo Pellistri (loaned to Granada), Hannibal Mejbri (loaned to Sevilla), Jadon Sancho (loaned to Dortmund), Sergio Reguilón (loan expired), Donny van de Beek (loaned to Eintracht Frankfurt).

Newcastle

After investing £400m in new players following the team’s acquisition by Saudi investors, Newcastle faced difficulties complying with Premier League sustainability regulations this January. Manager Eddie Howe faced a challenge in retaining the club’s star players, but ultimately managed to do so without major consequences in a frustrating transfer window. NM

No input required. Output: Javier Manquillo (signed from Celta Vigo, at no cost).

Nottingham Forest

The continuous movement of players after achieving promotion was stopped when the club was discovered to have violated financial regulations in the Premier League. The main team has been reduced in size, but a notable last-minute loan deal was made for Dortmund’s Gio Reyna. The addition of new goalkeeper Matz Sels on deadline day may prove to be a wise decision.

Incoming players: Giovanni Reyna on loan from Dortmund, Rodrigo Ribeiro on loan from Sporting, Matz Sels for £5.1 million from Strasbourg. Outgoing players: Gustavo Scarpa to Atlético Mineiro for £4.3 million, Scott McKenna on loan to Copenhagen, Orel Mangala on loan to Lyon.

Sheffield United

The struggling Blades were in dire need of new players for their attack and defense. The loan signing of Ben Brereton Díaz from Villarreal has been a quick success, as he scored two goals in his first two Premier League games. Ivo Grbic, the Croatian goalkeeper signed from Atlético Madrid, has had a tougher beginning, having conceded eight goals in his first two appearances. The team also acquired additional depth at centre-half with the arrival of Mason Holgate from Everton, after his loan at Southampton was ended early.

Transfers in: Ivo Grbic from Atlético Madrid for £2 million, Ben Brereton Díaz on loan from Villarreal, Mason Holgate on loan from Everton. Transfers out: Bénie Traoré on loan to Nantes, John Fleck released to Blackburn.

Tottenham

Ange Postecoglou aimed to improve the team’s central defence and attacking line, and the club promptly delivered. Despite having only played 40 games in Serie A, Radu Dragusin’s potential was highly valued, resulting in Tottenham paying an initial fee of £25m for him. The loan signing of Timo Werner also made sense. However, securing a deal for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher was expected to be challenging. Departures from the team included Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, and Ivan Perisic.

Key ins: Radu Dragusin (Genoa, £25m), Timo Werner (RB Leipzig, loan). Key outs: Ivan Perisic (Hajduk Split, loan), Eric Dier (Bayern Munich, loan), Hugo Lloris (Los Angeles, free), Djed Spence (Genoa, loan), Sergio Reguilón (Brentford, loan), Alejo Véliz (Sevilla, loan).

West Ham

A peculiar situation occurred for West Ham as they had anticipated a quiet transfer window. However, due to injuries in their attacking line, they were forced to make a move. Surprisingly, instead of a winger or forward, they acquired defensive midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan. On the other hand, two wide players, Saïd Benrahma and Pablo Fornals, were permitted to leave without being replaced. Although their potential moves to Lyon and Real Betis respectively were not finalized before the deadline, their prospective new clubs remained hopeful for special permission to complete the signings.

Incomings: Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on loan. Outgoings: Thilo Kehrer to Monaco on loan.

Wolves

The Wolves were in search of a forward to enhance their offensive strategy, however, their attempts to acquire Armando Broja and Yuri Alberto fell through. In the previous January, they made noteworthy signings such as Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina, but the need for additional players was not as urgent this time around, especially with Hwang Hee-chan performing exceptionally well. They also sold Jonny to Paok after he was demoted to the under-21 team due to a conflict during training. BF

Input: None. Output: Jonny Otto (Paok, at no cost), Sasa Kalajdzic (loaned from Eintracht Frankfurt), Fábio Silva (loaned to Rangers).
