Khan stated that neighbors offered their homes as a place for people to wash their eyes with water. A nearby hotel also provided assistance by allowing the police and victims to clean off some of the corrosive substance. Khan recognized the challenges of knowing how to respond in a chemical attack situation.
According to Khan, the number of attacks using corrosive substances has significantly decreased due to new laws. However, he noted that common household items like detergents and paint strippers still contain these harmful substances, which can cause extensive harm and put the public at risk.
Khan believes that corrosive substances should be classified as “offensive weapons” in addition to guns and knives. He argues that just like how we are addressing the issue of guns and knives from a public health perspective, we must also take action against these harmful substances.
He stated, “Our goal is to create barriers that make it challenging for ordinary individuals to obtain harmful substances.” Khan emphasized the importance of intervening early due to the specific nature of last night’s attack.

It was a very, very scary thing to hear. And also all of the local residents are quite shocked and quite worried that something like this had happened.”
