Readers shared their thoughts on the Grammy snubs for this year, describing it as an “abundance of delightful music in an audio ball-pit.”

This album is deeply emotional and intimate.

I was surprised to see Foo Fighters not receiving nominations in the rock categories, specifically for rock album and rock song of the year. However, their album Here We Are was a powerful and introspective work that addressed themes of loss, grief, and moving forward. It marked a strong comeback for the band and given the context, I believed they could have potentially won some Grammys. That being said, Queens of the Stone Age’s In Times New Roman … was an exceptional album that also deserved recognition. Michael Taylor, 30-year-old journalist from Weymouth.

This revolutionary business is a much-needed change in an otherwise unprogressive field.

Raye has the most beautifully toned voice and her debut album, including the song Escapism, was snubbed. She’s worked hard to free herself of record labels and has emerged as an independent artist. Reminiscent of a young Amy Winehouse, Raye is a performer who writes her own music and is a breath of fresh air in this stagnant music industry. Sanna, Birmingham

I never get tired of listening to this song.

The song “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo is a timeless hit that will continue to be played at retro-themed events for years to come with names like “Instagram” and “Travis and Taylor”. It never gets old and I particularly enjoy the way it builds up. Just when you think it has reached its peak, it surprises you with even more. It’s like a condensed pop version of an opera. And the “F-you-ness” of it is just perfect. Olivia’s live performance of the song is just as amazing. Despite being almost 50 and growing up in the 90s with Britpop and dance music, my musical background includes classic 60s bands like The Kinks, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. Although this song wasn’t created for someone like me, I can’t help but belt it out in my car. -Antony from Tamworth

“Ilustrative of the current metal music scene.”

Spiritbox, a band in the metal genre, has been breaking barriers as they were nominated and won in a category typically dominated by older men. This is a significant achievement for a female-fronted metal band. Many believe that Spiritbox is a true representation of the current metal scene, as there is a growing frustration among metal fans towards the traditional, older bands. In recent years, bands like Spiritbox, Sleep Token, and Bad Omens have emerged as standouts and have gained popularity on platforms like TikTok. It is disappointing that their contribution to the scene has not been recognized and rewarded, especially considering the new audience they are bringing in. Tommie from London shares this sentiment.

‘He writes like a new Robert Frost for our days’

My 12-year-old daughter, husband, and I were rooting for Noah Kahan to win the award for best new artist. His music is deeply connected to the atmosphere of New England, and we were surprised that he was only nominated in one category. Other nominees for best new artist had multiple nominations. In my opinion, Kahan should have also been nominated in the Americana and folk categories. If Boygenius (whom I admire) can win best rock performance, then why couldn’t Kahan? We attended his performance in Saratoga Springs last summer and plan to see him again in Boston this spring. He is an incredible live performer and writes with a modern perspective similar to Robert Frost. Alexandra, 49, Rhode Island, US.

“She is deserving of greater recognition.”

Lana Del Rey’s most recent album, “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” is a beautifully crafted collection of songs that explore her personal history and musical journey through heartfelt and skillfully written lyrics. The album’s second single, “A&W,” received high praise from publications such as Pitchfork and The Guardian, and for good reason. The first half of the song delves into the dark realities of rape culture, infused with Lana’s signature touch, before transitioning into a hip-hop beat inspired by 1950s doo-wop. Lana’s unique singing style, which is more intimate and less theatrical, has also had a significant influence on other artists, including Billie Eilish. Despite her artistic talent and impact, Lana has yet to receive the recognition she deserves, with no Grammy wins throughout her career. In my opinion, she deserves much more acclaim for her work.

“Remember to maintain good ear hygiene!”

James David-Richards from Scotland suggests that Aphex Twin’s impressive audio ball-pit filled with delightful sounds, the Blackbox Life Recorder 21F, is not getting the recognition it deserves. This may be due to a lack of ear buds or Q-tips in the music industry. Therefore, it is important to keep our ears clean, according to James.

Although it did not receive any nominations, this album was the standout of the year.

Mitski’s album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, was released on the final day of eligibility for the Grammys and will not be considered for next year’s awards. However, despite not receiving any nominations, it was the standout album of the year. The album is a mix of funny, sad, experimental, and beautiful tracks, providing a refreshing break from the generic pop music of artists like Taylor Swift. Sadly, the Grammys have lost their once-edgy reputation. It’s a shame that Asian American artists like Mitski are often overlooked, especially when there are so many talented individuals in the industry, such as Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Yaeji. Mitski’s album showcases her incredible songwriting and diverse lyrics. Personally, I am drawn to the poetic nature of “Bug Like an Angel” and the beautiful melody of “Heaven.” She skillfully blends genres and continuously pushes boundaries with her innovative music. It’s impressive to see her growth with each album, something that is not easily achieved for most performers or writers. Simon Stebbings, 59, from Dunedin, New Zealand, shares my appreciation for Mitski’s talent.

SZA accepts the best R&B song award for Snooze – but was she robbed for album of the year?View image in fullscreen

‘Production that absolutely slaps’

I believe that SZA should have won album of the year among the nominees for her diverse and expansive album, SOS. It features a combination of all the distinctive elements from her previous excellent album, CTRL, but amplified to a higher level. The melodies are stunning, the lyrics are captivating, and the production is top-notch. Although it may not have been the most cohesive sonically, SZA’s unique songwriting and vocals tie everything together. It may not have been as much of an injustice as last year’s album of the year winner, when Harry’s House was chosen over Renaissance, which I still find hard to believe. On a positive note, I am happy that Victoria Monét finally received recognition for her talent, so at least something went right! Khal, London
