Emma Raducanu pulled out of a charity game on Tuesday that was supposed to be part of her preparation for the Australian Open due to feeling discomfort.
Naomi Osaka, who was originally supposed to play, had dropped out, but Donna Vekic stepped in to face the British player in a match that was set to take place at Melbourne Park.
According to BBC Sport, Raducanu woke up on Tuesday feeling “slightly sore” after a two-hour practice session on Monday. As a result, she chose to rest instead of participating in the charity match.
The reigning champion of the 2021 US Open is preparing to come back to the grand slam tournament next week in Melbourne, having been absent since April 2023 due to undergoing surgeries on their ankle and wrist.
Raducanu, who received a direct entry into the 2022 Australian Open main draw due to other players withdrawing, is set to compete against 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva at the Kooyong Classic on Thursday.
On that day, the draw for the Australian Open will also occur.
