Erik ten Hag has taken disciplinary action against Marcus Rashford for failing to attend training on Friday due to illness. It was reported that Rashford had spent Thursday night partying in Belfast until the early morning hours.
On Monday evening, United issued a statement stating that the incident was handled as an internal disciplinary issue. According to a report from The Sun, the English player had allegedly gone out drinking on Thursday and then took a private jet back to Manchester in the early hours of the morning, resulting in him missing training.
He was not included in the 4-2 FA Cup win against Newport County on Sunday. Rashford and his agent, Dwaine Maynard, were seen driving into the Carrington training facility for talks with Ten Hag.
The statement from United, issued on Monday evening, stated that Marcus has accepted responsibility for his behavior. The matter has been handled as an internal disciplinary issue and is now resolved.
It is not clear if he has received a penalty or any other consequences. United has stated that Rashford will be able to play in Thursday’s Premier League match against Wolves.
After a disagreement in September regarding Jadon Sancho’s absence from the loss at Arsenal, Ten Hag has taken swift action to resolve the issue. This resulted in the forward not playing under the manager again before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund this month.
Rashford was absent from United’s training session at Carrington on Friday, citing illness. This came after photos surfaced of him at a nightclub in Belfast, Northern Ireland. According to The Sun, Rashford was seen drinking and eventually went to sleep at around 3am.
On Wednesday, Rashford made a trip to Northern Ireland to see his former youth teammate from United, Ro-Shaun Williams. Williams recently joined the domestic champions, Larne.
