A previous member of the Royal Marines is seeking help on social media in hopes of finding his missing prosthetic legs, which were taken during a car burglary in west London.
Mark Ormrod, who is 40 years old, informed his followers on X that his car was vandalized by thieves who also stole his gym clothes and jujitsu attire.
On Monday night, he shared on the platform that his car was broken into. The thief(s) stole a bag containing sweaty gym clothes, another bag with his JiuJitsu Gi, and the most inconvenient of all, a set of his prosthetic legs.
The athlete who lost three limbs won a gold medal at the Invictus Games and was awarded an MBE for his contributions to the Royal Marines and fellow veterans.
The car belonging to Ormrod was situated at a Premier Inn located in Chiswick. Despite the hotel’s security cameras being directed towards the car, they were unable to record the occurrence.
He mentioned that even though there were 3 cameras focused on his car, the hotel staff claimed they could not detect any movement because another car was obstructing the view (perhaps it’s time to adjust the camera positions).
It is disheartening to consider that someone would trespass into a vehicle parked in a designated handicap spot and take essential equipment that allows someone to live independently, without any regard for the consequences.
In 2007, while serving in Afghanistan, Ormrod was injured by an improvised explosive device, leading to the amputation of his right arm and both legs.
He later joined the Royal Marines Charity and received the 2018 BBC South West Sports Personality of the Year award for his involvement in the Invictus Games.
According to BBC News, Premier Inn stated that they are investigating the situation.
