The Dominican Republic officials have taken into custody American rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, who is set to make a court appearance on Thursday for charges related to domestic abuse.
According to officials, the musician known as Daniel Hernández is currently detained at a prison in Santo Domingo, the country’s capital, after being taken into custody on Wednesday.
There is currently no additional information, and it is not immediately certain if Hernández has legal representation.
On Thursday, a judge will determine if the rapper will stay in jail or be released on bond while the investigation continues.
This is the most recent encounter with law enforcement for Hernández.
In October, he was apprehended at a beachfront hotel in the Dominican Republic for allegedly attacking a nearby music producer. Hernández and his colleague, a Dominican rapper named Yailín la Más Viral, were using the producer’s studio to record.
Hernández had previously faced accusations in the US of utilizing a violent gang as his own “personal hit squad”. However, he was able to evade imprisonment by offering testimony against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, a gang active on the east coast of the US.
He was attacked by multiple individuals at a gym in Florida in March 2023.
In 2018, Tekashi 6ix9ine and Nicki Minaj collaborated on the song “Fefe”, which became a multiplatinum success and reached No. 3 on the pop charts.
